My knitting frustrations

About 1.5 years ago I decided I wanted to learn how to knit.

I'm not a crafty person by any means. I got a sewing machine for Christmas but with working full time and (at the time) dealing with a baby (Hayden) I just didn't get too many chances to break it out.

One day I had a lightbulb moment. I could learn to KNIT! Knitting was portable, I could do it on long trips, or on my breaks at work, or on the bus ride home! I asked my mom if she could teach me. She said yes.

We had a few issues because she's right handed and I'm left handed. But we worked it out. My first knitting project was making a pair of wool shorties for Hayden. They would serve as a cloth diaper cover. 6 months later I finished it. I think Hayden had JUST grown again. They didn't fit over his little legs that still had a tad bit of baby fat on them. Frustrating, but what did I expect? I took 6 months to finish them!

I liked knitting. My mom was impressed at how quickly I picked it up. It was relaxing to me. And I was excited to be able to make something my kids could wear!!!

I decided to start making little newborn shorties for the baby that we recently found out I was expecting. I figured if I could whip out one pair a month I would have 9 pairs. I ended up making 6. I whipped some of them up so fast! I had the pattern practically memorized!

I bought a pattern for longies, wool pants. Diaper cover AND outerwear. It was a really frustrating pattern. There were a lot of new techniques I had a hard time with. I finished the longies not even 2 days before Quinn was born. I didn't put her in cloth until her umbilical cord fell off. But I used the longies as her going home outfit.

She was so short that the shorties (haha!) didn't fit her right away. But when I finally put them on, they didn't fit over her chubby legs. 9 months of knitting went to waste.

My mom tried to comfort me and say I could use them for the next child. She was right. But I am bitter. I decided that I would never knit again.

That was about 8 months ago.

Suddenly I'm getting the itch to knit again. I have some cute yarn calling my name. And oddly enough, I've even DREAMED of knitting!

I'm working on a free scarf pattern I got off the internet. I have knitted a whole 1.5 inches in just over a week! LOL!

But at least I don't have to worry about anyone outgrowing a scarf.

I spent months crocheting a US flag afghan for Matt's dad only to discover at the end that the blue portion with the stars wasn't proportionate with the rest of it. I tried stretching it and pulling it but it remained obviously lopsided! I'm happy to say I've improved a lot since then, but every time I see that blanket, I cringe!
