My parents have 2 indoor cats. Not by choice. Both of these cats belonged to someone in the family and when that family member moved out they didn't take their pet with them.
One of those cats belonged to me.
Hades was a gift from an ex-boyfriend (HA! I right "an ex-boyfriend" like I had so many! Truth is he was my ONLY ex-boyfriend). I got him in November of 1999. Shortly after I graduated highschool. He was 4 months old when I got him. A black cat with a few white tufts of fur. I love black cats. I wanted to name him Lucifer (from Cinderella) but for some reason I can't remember I went with Hades, the greek god of the underworld.
Later, I broke up with my boyfriend and decided I wanted to serve a mission for my church. From April 2002 to September 2003 I served a mission in Rochester, New York. Coolest experience ever! But that's a whole 'nother post. :) While I was gone, Hades bonded with my Mom and my younger brother Kevin. Shortly after I got home Brian and I got married. I remember talking to my Mom about what I would do with Hades. I couldn't take him away, he had bonded with my Mom and brother (who was still at home). So with my parents he stayed. I don't think my Dad was too thrilled. But he didn't complain too much, he shares my soft spot for black cats.
Hades is so full of personality. He doesn't like to be held. I think it's because he had ear mites as a kitten and I held him so I could put his ear drops in. He hated those ear drops. His canine teeth hang over his lip like vampire fangs. My dad calls him "fang". He likes to get in your face and smack you with his tail. He likes to chew on hair. If you hold on to his tail he will flop onto his side. If you hold onto his tail while he's already laying down he will roll over.
I took this picture the other night, the way he sits with his paws crossed out in front cracks me up!!!
Quinn loves Hades. Actually she loves both cats but Hades is the only one desperate enough for attention that he actually LETS Quinn bat at him and chew on his tail. It's adorable.
