September Simple Pleasures #2

#2-Getting Dolled up

As a working mom, sleep is precious. Once I figure out the absolute latest I can sleep in and still have time to shower before work, it's difficult to get up any earlier. I usually dress nice to work but throw my wet hair into a ponytail and forgo any makeup because I don't have time.

I know I don't look like trash but I feel like it. I feel great when I am actually able to blow dry my hair and throw on some mascara and lipstick.

Ah, lipstick. This is a newfound love of mine (along with lipgloss). In high school I played the flute. Lipstick and flutes do not mix. Since I decided not to continue as a music major my poor little flute has been neglected. He (yes, he is a he. He has a name too.) comes out on Christmas Eve to play carols with my sister. Other than that, he sits in his case on the piano. Collecting dust.

Anyways, since I don't play the flute much anymore. I go nuts with lipstick. I haven't found a color yet that I don't like. I wear them all. As I write this I am wearing red lipstick. I think I look pretty good. :)

I chopped my hair off shortly before going back to work after Quinn was born. It was to the middle of my back. It took 7 YEARS to grow it that long. In a split second decision I decided I wanted it to my shoulders. I love it.

As I mentioned, however, I don't get up early enough during the week to get dolled up. On the weekends I'm too busy making up for being away from my kids all week to take the extra half hour to make myself up. Church is too early to get up and put makeup on as well, It's hard to get kids ready to go AND myself ready for 8am church!

It's such a rare occasion for me to have my hair down and styled and makeup on (especially at work) that my coworkers comment when I do have enough extra time to make myself look "nice". It's kind of embarrassing. I've worked in my office for 4 years and one secretary told me she didn't think she's ever seen me with makeup on!

And so it goes. Each morning, when my alarm goes off at 5:00. I debate, Do I get up now and do my hair and makeup, or do I sleep another half hour and go to work with wet hair and no makeup?

I don't know why I even bother, sleep always wins. I have good intentions though!

I think I pull the wet hair look off nicely.

I had a completely different picture on this blog...I don't know how this one got here but its going to stay

Very cute picture!! It's true once you become a mom you just don't have time for yourself like you used to..someday.. someday. (Then we will be just missing our kids!) LOL
