11. Music
I love music. I used to be a music major. I played the flute. I took voice lessons for a while as well. I had friends who sang, played the guitar, trumpet, clarinet...you name it. I loved band rehearsals. I loved listening to the music taken apart and worked on and then played together. I love harmony and duets and solos.
*Contented Sigh* I may not be a music major anymore, but I still appreciate good music. I love little details in music. One of my favorite hymns (that we rarely sing in church) is in a minor key until the very last note of the last verse, it ends in a major chord (don't ask me what kind of chord it is...its been a LONG time since I took music theory!). There's a rock song that I love that towards the end goes into this Spanish sounding acoustic guitar solo.
It makes me happy every time I hear it.
I can say that I like most genres of music. I grew up listening to what my older sister listened to. I loved Bryan Adams, and Chicago, and REO Speedwagon. When I got into high school I rebelled and decided I loved gangsta rap. Yup, little old white me. My friend Kevin bought me my first Tupac CD. That phase didn't last long. My high school boyfriend liked rock music, so for a while I listened to bands like Korn, and Limp Bizkit. When I graduated from high school I got into country. I worked as a delivery driver for Checker Auto Parts then. I loved driving around town listening to the radio.
One day while driving around, I was listening to the local alternative station. They played a song that I just loved. When the DJ said who the song was by I repeated it over and over in my mind so I wouldn't forget. New Found Glory. I went and bought the CD. I found out they were coming to town with the Vans Warped Tour. My sister and I bought tickets. We bought extra tickets so we could take dates.
I knew exactly who I was going to ask.
There was a cute boy that hung out with my younger sister's group of friends. She talked about him all the time but only just recently had I met him.
Brian.
So I got his number and call to ask him. He said yes, and mentioned that he really liked several of the bands that were coming with the tour. Turns out, his favorite band, Rancid was there. As we started hanging out more and more, Brian introduced me to many different bands. Punk became my music of choice. At first it was the more "trendy" punk, as Brian called it. New Found Glory, Simple Plan, Blink 182, etc. Now, I like the more hard core stuff. Screamo bands. For some strange reason I LIKE screaming. I remember once saying that screaming doesn't take talent and shouldn't be a part of music.
LOL! How things change!
